We’re working to improve site usability

We’ve been working hard to improve the site, resulting in a more transparent, secure, and user-friendly experience.

First, however, we would like to apologize if you visited us this week. For approximately 48 hours, from May 27 to 29, we were the victim of a significant spam attack for a site of our size. However, our security software, CleanTalk, did its job.

Over those two days, CleanTalk rejected nearly 4,000 malicious requests, with some points reaching several per second. It also blocked over 100 brute-force login attempts. They were indeed trying quite hard.

The CleanTalk dashboard displays the origin of our attackers for this week.

We’re pleased to report that the site remained online without a successful breach during the entire attack, thanks to CleanTalk. How does this happen? CleanTalk blocks them with a special landing page instead of the site, which lessens the strain on our servers.

If you see a white landing page appear, you know it’s doing its job. We were certainly skeptical, but watching it successfully fend off not only the attack this week, but a previous minor attack with ease made us believers.

(You’ll also notice that throughout our site, our e-mails are blurred out. That’s CleanTalk too — preventing our e-mails from being harvested by spambots, and your e-mails if you’d ever post them publicly in a comment here, which you SHOULDN’T.)

We were so pleased with the performance that we’ve also migrated to CleanTalk for our security software, along with our other sites. Together, these applications are helping to keep our site secure and online, and we’re noticing a decrease in server load.

It’s already stopped a DDoS on one of our other sites, and maybe it’s just us, but our websites feel a lot peppier.

Some of the 4,000+(?!) spam attempts blocked over the past week.

We’d highly recommend this to anybody fighting off malicious actors from their site. You can have your site protected for as little as $12 per year.

And to those hackers – sorry, but you ain’t finding a way in here!

Better Transparency and Organization

We’ve moved all the links to our policies to the top menu for easier access. We’ve also added a new order tracking page, as well as a contact form, which also allows you to search through our extensive knowledge base.

Regarding our knowledge base, we’ve updated many articles to ensure accuracy and added specific information for the brands we carry. Over 100 questions answered!

(Later this summer, we will be launching a chatbot to help us expand and speed up answers for many queries and offer support, as well as assist in navigating our catalog. It trains on this knowledge base information, so it’s essential that we continually expand it, which we’ll do.)

We’ve also added a new feature to product pages to allow you to know precisely how much pre-tax you will spend on the product and shipping. Enter your address to see what options are available to you.

Remember, any order total over $60 (pre-tax, after discounts) is eligible for free shipping.

Improved Davis Product Descriptions

Our product descriptions for many Davis products now include additional information relevant to the product you’re looking at. For example, you might be looking at the Davis Vantage Vue Integrated Sensor Suite. What Davis sensors and accessories are compatible with each other? Scroll down, and you can add those to your cart without having to leave the page.

Davis is one of our largest lines, and we want to ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed buying decision.

We’ve also added FAQs to not only Davis products but most of our catalog. We tried to answer as many questions as possible, but if you have others, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Expedited and Canadian Shipping!

Finally, we have completed rolling out service to Canada and are now moving on to adding an expedited shipping option for our US customers. This will offer a date-definite, guaranteed delivery in three days or less anywhere in the US.

Unfortunately, adding a new shipping option is a manual process and will be rolled out region by region, expanding outward from our Pennsylvania location. As a result, it may not be available in your area just yet. However, we expect to have it completely rolled out by the second week of June.
