Lightning strikes are a risk for all kinds of watercraft, and if your boat or watercraft is the only one in the vicinity when lightning strikes, the odds of being struck go way up. Keeping the Talos In-Motion Lightning Detector on board will make you aware of lightning in the area.
While the In-Motion version’s lightning detection capabilities are identical to those of the pool model, the addition of an auto-sleep mode helps conserve battery by only actively detecting lightning strikes while it detects the watercraft in motion. When lightning is first detected (up to 25 miles), the Talos Pool Lightning Detector with Mounting Base flashes all 8 LEDs for 5 minutes. To save battery life, after 5 minutes of lightning detection, the detector switches to blinking every other LED for the remaining time that lightning is detected.
