Learning from Each Order

When starting Cirrusly Weather, we made a promise internally to learn something and improve on each order we receive and each customer query you send. Our most recent change is a result of that.

When we introduced expedited shipping options, we introduced an option on our pages where you can get a live quote for additional shipping methods. We do not mark up shipping rates, so this is the quote we get, unedited.

There’s one problem with this method. “Free” shipping isn’t exactly free; it is a cost baked into the selling price. The way we were quoting, that cost was being shifted completely to you, which is not what we should be doing.

Update: The issue has been addressed, and expedited options are now quoting as expected. We’ve removed options such as UPS Ground and FedEx Ground, as these are offered with standard shipping by default.

As a result, we’re in the process of adjusting quoted prices to represent the difference between our cost to ship and your desired method. As 95% of our quotes and orders select the free method, this won’t affect many. However, in the meantime, we’re asking international and expedited orders to contact us before ordering, so we can generate a coupon code to manually adjust your shipping price down.

Again, if you select our free shipping (available to all US states, including Puerto Rico and nearby territories), this does not apply.

We also continue to investigate ways to ship weather stations to traditionally cost-prohibitive locations requiring air travel. At this time, the cheapest method remains USPS, although shipping times may be up to 7-14 days.
