FAQ

Who is the Davis Vantage Pro2 best for?

We recommend the Davis Vantage Pro2 for a wide variety of applications. Itโ€™s best suited for applications where a high degree of accuracy is desired. However, the Davis Vantage Vue would better serve everyday weather watchers.

Does the Davis Vantage Pro2 require batteries?

The Integrated Sensor Suite operates primarily on solar power. A CR123 battery provides backup power as necessary, and in typical installations, it should last 2-3 years. We do not recommend the wireless Vantage Pro2 in locations that receive less than 6 hours of sunlight daily during winter.

How do I get the most accurate readings from my Vantage Pro2?

We strongly recommend placing your anemometer assembly as high as possible. One of the Vantage Pro2โ€™s best features is the capability to separate the anemometer from the rest of the sensor suite. With 40 feet of wire, you can get the sensor to the official level of 33 feet.

Do I need fan aspiration?

Fan aspiration keeps air moving around your sensors, making readings more accurate during daylight hours when exposed to direct sunlight. In our experience, this has led to a 2- 3ยฐF difference in temperature between aspirated and non-aspirated models. While not a significant difference, it is large enough to cause readings to be inaccurate. We recommend fan aspiration if youโ€™re concerned with accuracy.

I cannot use wireless devices in my home. Is a wired version of the Davis Vantage Pro2 available?

Yes, a cabled version of the Davis Vantage Pro2 is available. Learn more here.

I recently was reminded how much I depend on the Vantage Pro2 every day. I was changing batteries after fifteen months, and I inadvertently changed the ISS setting. So for a half-hour I was reading the manual (could be better!) and figuring out my problem. During that time I thought about how much I and several of my neighbors depend on the station here in the generally hot Phoenix region.

I’ve had the Davis for six years, with only one problem. The anemometer failed during warranty. That’s the only issue over six years and still going strong. I am using the original console that, while it shows its age, works fine for my purposes.

The station is accurate and reliable. Bottom line – I’d recommend it to a neighbor, friend, or family member.
