About the Davis UV Sensor (6490)
In direct sunlight, sunburn can start in as little as ten minutes. With the Davis UV Sensor, you can measure the sunburning portion of the UV spectrum and calculate UV index, dose rate, and daily and accumulated dose. (This sensor is included with the Vantage Pro and Pro2 Plus models.)
The multi-layer filter provides a spectral response that closely matches the Erythema Action Spectrum. This curve illustrates the effectiveness of different wavelengths of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in causing erythema (sunburn) in human skin. The two-piece housing minimizes radiation heating and allows sensor convection cooling, preventing water or dust infiltration.
Features:
- Sensor includes a built-in level
- Two feet of cable included
- Compatible with both the original Vantage Pro and Vantage Pro2
- Requires the Sensor Mounting Shelf
- Solar Radiation Sensor sold separately
FAQ
What is the UV Index?
indicate how quickly skin damage can occur when exposed to sunlight.
UV Index Scale:
– 0-2 (Low): Minimal risk of harm. Sun protection generally not necessary.
– 3-5 (Moderate): Moderate risk. Protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses) recommended.
– 6-7 (High): High risk. Protection is essential. Limit midday exposure.
– 8-10 (Very High): Very high risk. Extra protection is crucial. Avoid direct sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
– 11+ (Extreme): Extreme risk. Maximum protection required. Minimize outdoor activity.
